The Montreal Canadiens have claimed Jeff Halpern on waivers from the New York Rangers, the Canadiens announced Saturday.
Larry Brooks of the New York Post first reported Halpern would be joining one of his former teams. Halpern had no goals and one assist in 30 games for the Rangers this season.
Halpern spent the 2010-11 season with the Canadiens, and he produced his best offensive season since 2005-06. He had 11 goals and 26 points in 72 games for Montreal.
Several media outlets also reported the Rangers waived defenseman Stu Bickel on Saturday. Bickel has no goals or points in 16 games for New York this season. He spent some of those contests filling in as a fourth-line forward.
