Is this trade worth it though? Still have to remember he's 38 years old, knuckle-ball pitchers usually decline when they enter their 40s.

I believe this trade benefits the Mets more than the Jays. The Jays want to "win now" and the Mets want to "win in 2014".
Also Niekro pitched well into his 40s. So did Wakefield, but he was less effective.
