CHICAGO -- The Cubs' defense had been stellar Thursday, but then catcher Welington Castillo let a ball get away.
The Padres scored four runs in the eighth, including the tying run on a passed ball by Castillo, to rally for a 4-2 victory against the Cubs and Travis Wood, who deserved better.
Wood retired the first 14 batters he faced before Kyle Blanks smacked a clean single to center in the fifth. Wood then got Jedd Gyorko to hit into a force at second and end the inning.
Wood also singled and picked up his first career stolen base. He was in command over seven innings, limiting the Padres to two hits. Then came the eighth.
